This exhibition shows the work of some of the most interesting Spanish women photographers born between 1940 and 1970. At the same time, the selection of works is a brief anthology for each of them. A gallery walk will show the evolution of photography during those years, ranging from reflecting what does exist up to inventing a new one -through objects and situations- just to the purpose of creating a photograph.

In the last decades photography has burst onto the scene of Fine Arts, leaving behind its documentary purpose to gradually gain entity as a work of art. The multiple possibilities of the photographic expression and the camera’s ability to register unnoticed aspects of reality -because of being too quick, repeated or even insignificant- have built up the conditions for its own artistic status. On the other hand, photography also disregards both art’s uniqueness and a long learning process, both inherent to modern art, reason why photography is particularly appropriate to post-modern art.

A question that arises when analyzing these works of art is wether there is a specific feminine look. If it is true that only a woman may be behind certain photographs, it is also uncertain that we may find one single aspect common to all photographs made by women. Still, several subjects and points of view feature that look: the universe of the nearest, the memory of what History forgets, body fluids, the representation of women –expressed in a very different manner as men do. If one considers all the works in this exhibition, the facts above are not always present, more than that, the post modern spirit has been pointed out as well by men.

The exhibition tour covers galleries 1, 4 and 5 as well as close corridors. Visitors may complete the tour in both a projection and a reading spaces with artists’ videos and bibliography on their work along with the exhibition catalogue.
